MILKTHISTLE
Milkthistle has been used for hundreds of years by herbalists and physicians for treating liver
complaints and to generally protect the body from endogenous (internal cause) and exogenous (external cause) toxins.
For instance, in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, a manifestation of metabolic syndrome, a combined approach of insulin reduction using medications and attention to diet plus the use of milkthistle has yielded good results.

The action of
milkthistle can be split into three
distinct functions:
Serves as an antioxidant –it quenches the free radical derived from the detoxification of toxic substances.
It also increases serum levels of glutathione –the master antioxidant
Serves as an anti‑ inflammatory – because it regulates cytokines which are responsible for inducing inflammation (it prevents an overreaction of immune system induced inflammation – commonly referred to as a cytokine storm)
Serves as an antifibrotic – prevents the deposition of collagen fibres that can lead to liver injury (fibrosis).
